A. Doyle Stewart

Nov 20, 1948 -

Mar 2, 2020

On Monday, March 2, 2020, A. Doyle Stewart, loving husband and father of three children passed away, at the age of 71. Doyle was born in Oklahoma in 1948. He was a self-described ornery old coot, who loved camping, strong coffee, quiet mornings and a good bed of coals for the campfire.

As a nurse, Doyle could and would go toe-to-toe with anyone, on behalf of his patients. He fought on behalf of the Nurse's Union to bring better working conditions for his colleagues at Providence Hospital, and as Vice President of the bargaining unit for the Nurse's Association helped to bring an end to a five year nursing dispute in 1999.

As a father, Doyle brought a wonderful and insatiable sense of adventure to his family. Nearly every summer for more than 10 years, the Stewart family would travel up the Yukon River in Canada to create memories with friends and family. Up along the Dalton Highway or the Alaska Highway you may find several perfectly-fashioned fire pits, thanks to Doyle.

Doyle had a particular talent for finding the positives in any given situation. He was a man of integrity, truth, strength and unconditional love.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and his three children, Josh, Laura and Alexandra.

A gathering will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage, Alaska.
