Arthur "Brock" See

Mar 23, 1935 -

Aug 26, 2020

Longtime Kasilof resident Brock See passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at the age of 85. Brock was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015. In the last week of his life he was surrounded by his wife, children and close friends.

Brock was born on March 23, 1935, in Renton, Wash., and moved to Bethel with his parents, Arthur and Shirlie See, in 1941, and then to Anchorage in 1942. Brock loved to hunt and fish from an early age; he explored the woods surrounding Anchorage and told stories of hopping on the Alaska railroad as a teenager to hunt, trap and fish in Southcentral Alaska. He attended Anchorage H.S. and graduated in 1953. Brock cherished his childhood friendships and continued many throughout his lifetime.

As a young man, Brock joined the U.S. Army and served as a boat captain on Lake Louise. He liked to say he had the best possible job that the Army offered. He loved Alaska and being on the water. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories to the officers that he ferried across the lake for R&R and training exercises.

After his military service, he homesteaded on 40 acres in Kasilof. He spent all his free time outdoors: hunting, trapping and fishing. Brock worked as a Journeyman insulator and was active in his Union - Local 97. His true love was commercial fishing: Seine fishing on his boat the Dutch Maid and set netting off the mouth of the Kasilof River. He spent more than 60 years on the water with his closest friends and children.

Brock loved his community. He was a lifelong Lion's Club member. He participated in the Arctic Winter Games, Lion's Eye Health Program vision screening and glasses collection, Kasilof Cemetery clean-up and many more activities that raised money to support his community members on the Kenai Peninsula. He was also a longtime member of Pioneers of Alaska #33.

Brock will be remembered for his infectious laugh and quick wit. He was a loving and kind husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Janice See; his sister, Nancy Parker; niece, Jodi Reed; children, Anthony See and Alayne Pearson; stepchildren, Shelly Hutchins, Teri Hogue, Lori Fuller and Kami Hutchins; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on the beach in Kasilof in June 2021.
