June 23, 2020
Barbara Jean Haken, 60, passed away on June 23, 2020, from metastatic sarcoma cancer at her home in Eagle River, Alaska. Her life was celebrated and remembered by a small gathering of friends and family, as she had wished. Barb was born on Nov. 30, 1959, in Anchorage, Alaska, where she remained a lifelong Alaska resident. She graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in dental hygiene. Barb attended Birchwood Community Church where she met and married her husband of 35 years, Raymond Haken. She worked as a dental hygienist before becoming a loving mother of three children, Melissa, Kyle and Tracie. During the years 2010-2020, Barb became a teacher's aide for the Anchorage School District at Clark Middle School before retiring.
Barb's family wrote: "Mom had the most giving heart, she enjoyed many of her longtime friendships, and she loved nothing more than being a grandma. Mom will be remembered for her love of treasure hunting, antiquing, talent for decorating and always taking photos. We truly had the best mom and she will be deeply missed. Her faith in Jesus Christ kept her at peace during her battle with cancer by knowing she would soon be rejoicing with our Lord and Savior."
Barb is survived by her husband, Raymond Haken; her daughter, Melissa and husband Joseph Watson with their son Oakley; her son, Kyle and his wife Ashley Haken and her daughter Tracie Haken, all of Eagle River; her twin sister, Patty Rafter of Anchorage; and her brother, Robert Lorenz of Grand Junction, Colo.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Bernice Lorenz; and granddaughter, Taytum Watson.
