Barry Leonard Blumenthal

Barry Blumenthal passed peacefully on Feb. 1, 2020, with family by his side.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1943, in Providence, R.I. He began his Air Force career in 1960 until 1966. He was in the Air Force Reserves from 1971 to 1982, which included a tour in Vietnam and Civil Service from 1971 to 1999. He also worked as a an A & P mechanic until he retired in 2018.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hockey and spending time with his family, but what really brought him the most joy was The Shriners Outreach Program, which helped young children get the medical attention that they needed. He was a lifetime member of The De Molay (Masonic), in which he received The De Molay Legion of Honor. He also received The Charles Taylor Master Mechanics Award.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shirley "Peanut" Blumenthal; siblings, Candy (husband Ross), Debbie (Alvin), Ed (wife Dianne) and David (wife Mina); children, Sara (husband David), Rusty Kalp, Susanne (Brandon), Kelly Kalp and Leigh (Bryce); grandchildren, Cory (wife Masha), Kari (fusband Chandler) and Ian Todt; great-grandchildren; Mason, Liam, Seth, Ezra and Easton; nieces; various cousins; and extended family.

Services will be held on Fort Richardson on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at 11:30 a.m.; must be at Fort Richardson gate at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be at The Al Aska Shrine Temple on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at 2 p.m.
