Carl Libbey, 90, passed away with his family by his side on Feb. 19, 2020, at Providence Hospital. Carl was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on Jan. 29, 1930, to the late Harold Libbey and Ruth Carlson.
Carl lived in Anchorage until he was drafted into the Army in 1950. He served two years in Whittier, Alaska, and was transferred to Fort Lee, Va., where he met his wife, Aurelia "Betty" Delores Landry. The two got married in 1954 and moved back to Alaska. Carl and Betty were married for 58 years and raised six daughters together. Carl had a long career with Arctic Office Machine Company that lasted from 1960-1989. Carl enjoyed taking his boat across Cook Inlet for hunting and fishing adventures and educating his sons-in-law on maneuvering Cook Inlets tides. Carl was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor.
Carl is preceded in death with his wife, Betty Libbey; children, Terri Carle, Mary Kaye Dunagan, Jean Libbey and John Libbey; and grandson, Brian Carle.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Carla Garrod, Gayle (Jon) Rus, Joan (Kurt)Thor and Laurie (Chris) Miller; sons-in-law, Mike Carle and Brian Dunagan; grandchildren, Travis Garrod, Jennifer Carle, Michael Carle, Tyler Rus, Eric Rus, Sarah Dunagan, Casey Dunagan, Carrie Orlopp and Robin Nino; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 4 p.m., at Bayshore Clubhouse, 3131 Amber Bay Loop in Anchorage.
