Carol Ann McGaw Warren

May 12, 1935 -

Aug 14, 2020

Carol Ann McGaw Warren passed away on Aug. 14, 2020, at her home in Chugiak, Alaska. Carol was born on May 12, 1935, at her grandmother's home in Lisman, Ky., to Charles David and Evelyn Baker McGaw. She spent her childhood and teen years on the family farm where she enjoyed the company of cousins and friends.

She attended Murray State University where she met and married William Allen "Bill" Warren in 1955. They had two children.

During her years in Murray, Ky., Carol co-owned an art gallery and frame shop. Later she moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the University of Tennessee med school. She also went back to college and graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture.

Carol visited her daughter's family in Alaska often, which sparked her desire to move to Alaska in 2011. She found a home at the Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center, where she enjoyed weekly bridge games, writing and singing groups, and the art group which grew into her passion. Some of her happiest times were spent at painting retreats and art classes with her newfound community of friends.

She remained active and optimistic even through chemo and radiation treatments for the cancer that ended her life.

Carol is survived by her brother, Charles D. (Wanda) McGaw; daughter, Lisa (Rick) Sinnott; son, Allen Kirk (Ioana) Warren; grandchildren, Aiden, Ecaterina and Chirana Warren, and Erin (Tucker) Remley and Meghan (Chris Anderson) Sinnott; and five great grandchildren.

Thanks to Providence Hospice staff for your care and support of Carol and her family during the last two months, and to her kindred spirit, nurse Mary at Katmai Oncology.

No services are planned at this time. We encourage family and friends to share memories of Carol on the Cremation Society of Alaska website, alaskacremation.com. Donations in Carol's memory may be made to Alaska Public Media, 3877 University Drive, Anchorage AK 99508; or Valley Fine Arts Association, P.O. Box 671521, Chugiak, AK 99567.
