Oct 31, 2020
Dennis James LeClaire, 64, died Oct. 31, 2020, at Alaska Regional Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer. Dennis was born May 3rd, 1956, to Melvin and Hilma LeClaire at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash. He attended Irving and Wilson grade schools, Sacajawea Middle School and Lewis and Clark High School. Dennis entered the U.S. Air Force July 19, 1973 and served until Nov. 7, 1980, honorably discharged. He served overseas for nearly six years. He received awards including Outstanding Unit Record and Good Conduct Medal. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska for a time.
Dennis will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was known to help anyone in need especially the elderly, and went beyond the call of duty to serve others. Dennis fulfilled the God-given gift of helping others while here on earth. He left behind many people who love and care about him. He was a jack of all trades it's often said of him that there wasn't anything he didn't know how to do, or couldn't fix. Dennis was manager of Applebee's where the employees became family to both he and Shelly - their outpouring of support has been greatly appreciated.
In the end Dennis rekindled his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ, and put his hope and trust in Him. He had such peace after that and felt that God was calling him home.
He is survived by his significant other, Shelly Childress; his father, Melvin LeClaire and step-mother Darlene LeClaire of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Stephen LeClaire of Fla., sister, Jean of Spokane, sister, Sharon of Eugene, Ore., brother; Donald of Ore., step-brother, Keith of Spokane, step-sisters, Linda, Roxanne and Marilee of Spokane and step-sister Cindy of Kent, Wash. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael LeClaire; and birth mother, Hilma.
Services will be held at a later date to be announced when we can all gather safely and without restrictions to share our love and memories of Dennis.
