Dr. Scott L. Laudon
Feb 13, 1962 -
Feb 7, 2020
The adventuresome soul of Dr. Scott Laudon passed from our earth on Feb. 7, 2020, just days short of his 58th birthday. At the time of his death, Scott was in Lehi, Utah, and suffered a heart attack. He was there completing paragliding lessons, in anticipation of solo gliding off the Haleakala Volcano in Maui.
Scott was born in Salem, Ore., in 1962, to Janice and Dennis Laudon. He graduated in 1980 from McNary High School in Keizer, Ore., where he ran track and played football. He attended Western Oregon University, before transferring to Oregon State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1984. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1988 from Oregon Health Sciences University. Upon graduation, Scott joined the Army, serving as a Captain in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. After, he served in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1992.
An avid outdoorsman and searching for new adventure, Scott moved to Alaska in 1992 to start practicing dentistry alongside his uncle, Dr. Don Burk, who was a second father to him. After many years together, Scott opened his own practice, Alcan Dental Group, which he operated for over 25 years. Scott had a true devotion to his practice, patients and employees. Many have remarked on his compassion and bedside manner as some of his greatest attributes as a dentist. He had hopes of practicing alongside his daughters when they both completed dental school.
Lisa, his wife of 25 years, expressed countless times that life with Scott was "never boring." He had a need to squeeze every last drop out of life. He was an accomplished pilot, avid fisherman and skilled hunter, which took him across the United States, as well as Africa and South America. He taught all three of his children to fly, hunt and fish. Scott also loved skiing, scuba diving and travel, ensuring his family experienced many different countries and cultures.
Prior to Scott's death, he was working to complete his Vintner Certification from UC Davis. He enjoyed learning to farm and to care for the livestock and grapes on their land in Oregon. Upon retirement, he wished to live there part-time.
Scott was committed to his Christian beliefs and attended mass regularly. The family takes solace in knowing Scott's faith was strong and his soul is now at rest with our God in Heaven. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dennis, 1983; mother, Janice, 2011; and infant daughter Sarah, 2001.
Scott is survived by his wife, Lisa Laudon; his three children, Sydney, Piper and Tanner; sister, Dianna Hausauer (Brian Hausauer); and niece, Brooke Logan, all of Arizona; Anchorage family: in-laws, Sheila and Larry Harris; uncle and aunt, Dr. Don and Renee Burk; niece, Valerie Heinrichs; cousins, Dr. Guy Burk (Dr. Jessica Burk), Dr. Vivian Burk (Jim Egan); his Oregon family; uncle and aunt, Bruce and Vicki Laudon; cousins, Lisa Kelley, Ryan Laudon, Dana Burk; also, cousins, Julianne Hinchey of Montana and Kelly Burk of Colorado.
