Emma Lee Brown was born in Richland, Wash., to Essie L. Brown and Willie A. Brown, she was their first daughter of 11 children. She was a lifetime Alaskan, arriving in Alaska in 1956. Ms. Brown graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1967. Her speed in typing and shorthand landed her employment with the State Department of Corrections at the 3rd Avenue Jail Facility as lead secretary until it closed. She went on to work for the Anchorage School District at various middle and high schools as a safety/security officer. She retired from the School District after 20 years, well respected by both staff and students.
Her absolute favorite activities were cooking, baking, reading, music/dancing, driving, travel and TV westerns. Her personality was warm and non-judgmental. Family and spirituality went hand in hand within her soul; she attended various churches on a regular basis.
Her travel took her to Chicago, Ill., in 2008, uniting with her daughter, where they enjoyed a variety of public and community activities, creating and storing up unforgettable memories. Due to her daughter's job transfer they moved to Dallas, Texas, in 2010, where Ms. Brown bought her third house. They loved the sunny weather after leaving the "Windy City."
Ms. Brown had been diagnosed in her mid-30s as Type II diabetic. Her health began a slow but consistent decline. Complications associated with her diagnosis secured her exit from this life. Both parents and grandparents preceded her in transition. She is survived by her only child, Tiffany Shawnt'e Brown; her 10 siblings, Willie Brown Jr., Rio Ritha, Paul Gregory, Neujia-Patricia M., Sandor Adams, Robert Lee, Don Rudis, Eileen, Andrew and Kathleen Viola; and a large wonderful group of nieces and nephews. She loved, was loved and will be missed forever and a day. Her family would support all to educate themselves and their families about diabetes and be diagnosed sooner rather than later.
