Evelyn "Evy" Hendrickson, 79, returned to her heavenly home peacefully in her sleep on July 7, 2020, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Her devoted family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle with Alzheimer's and ultimately gave her peace.
Evelyn was born to the late Arthur and Lucy Nagozruk on Nov. 19, 1940, in Napakiak, Alaska. Evelyn was a dedicated homemaker, committed to ensuring that her children were well loved and cared for. She was always known for her constant smile, humble attitude, quiet confidence and strong faith.
Evelyn was blessed with a large and loving family. She married David Hendrickson in 1971 and together had six children. They raised their children with patience, discipline and humility. Their home was always open to many people throughout the years. She enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, road trips and logic puzzles. She also loved to work with her hands, for many years she knitted qiviut.
Evelyn is survived by her brother, Gordon Nagozruk; sons, Arthur Hendrickson (Taziana), Eric Hendrickson and Brian Nagozruk (Cheryl); daughter, Bernice Hendrickson (Jeff); grandchildren, Jenessa Nagozruk, Brandon Nagozruk, Olivia Nagozruk, Winton Komonaseak, Raven Zumwalt, Zakk Zumwalt, Emmalyn Daniels, Jolene Daniels, Tabitha Hendrickson, Kristyn Hendrickson, Jordan Hendrickson, Michelle Knutson, Ben Hendrickson, David James Hendrickson and Evan Hendrickson; great-grandchildren, Anthony Romero, Elfie Nagozruk, Iredell Nagozruk, Olaf Knutson, Ivan Knutson, Kamiyah Komonaseak, Dwayne Aliralria, Abram Aliralria and Kevin Schuster; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, David Hendrickson Sr.; sons, David Hendrickson Jr. and Theodore Hendrickson; brothers, Elmer Nagozruk, Howard Nagozruk, Floyd Nagozruk, Arthur Nagozruk Jr. and Walter Nagozruk; sisters, Bertha Nagozruk, Margaret Trigg, Laura Baker and Grace Lucier.
Evelyn's service will be held at Evergreen Memorial, 737 E Street in Anchorage, Alaska, at 11 a.m., on July 21, 2020; Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. The interment will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery at 1 p.m. The reception will follow at Sisterhood Park, located near 4919 Van Buren Street in Anchorage. Vince Eben will officiate the service. The family will accept prayers, condolences and memories. The family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Alaska Chapter in her name, in lieu of flowers.
