Frederick L. Steinhauser

Frederick L. "Fred" Steinhauser was born March 8, 1928, in Crawfordsville, Ind.He passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 16, 2025, at Maple Springs of Anchorage.Fred attended Crawfordsville High School, was a member of the Indiana National Guard and worked in construction before moving to the Territory of Alaska in 1957, where he witnessed Statehood and made Alaska home.

Fred had retired from Anchorage Sand & Gravel Co. Inc. as Yard Foreman and a member of Laborors' Union 341. He and his wife Lee had participated in several organizations: Sons of Norway, the German Club, The Alaskans, The Real Alaskans and the Newcomers Club.

Survivors include a niece, Suzy Miller (Robert) of Crawfordsville; two nephews, Sam Biddle (Debbie) of Waynetown, Ind., and Skyler Biddle (Tina) of Pace, Fla.; five great-nieces and -nephews, Nathan (Sarah) Biddle, Lacey (Paul) Fritsch, Laney Biddle, Ethan (Susan Ward) Miller and Evan Miller; five great-great-nieces and -nephews, Spencer, Tori, Noah, Christopher and Olivia;and stepdaughter, Ginny Bakke (David Martin deceased) of Gig Harbor, Wash. Fred considered many as friends, especially Dawn Hansen and Richard Marshall, and Maria and Gonzalo Segura. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leotia E. (Lee) Steinhauser; parents, Leroy F. and Ruby May Hallett Steinhauser; two sisters, Barbara A. Biddle (Jim) and Martha Louise Steinhauser.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2025, at Legacy Funeral Home, 440 Klatt Road, Anchorage, AK 99515. Burial will be in Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the donor's choice.
