Jun 4, 2020
Steve was born on June 6, 1953, to George and Esther Flippen in Huntington Park, Calif. He passed away peacefully in Goodyear, Ariz., his winter home. He graduated from California High School in 1971 and, soon after, enlisted in the USAF. After basic training he was assigned to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. After four years in the AF, he worked on the Alaska pipeline in Chicken, Alaska, for a few years, and then with the Alaska Reperatory Theater. He started with the Federal Bureau of Land Management in 1979, met his future wife, Kathy, there and they were married on May 1, 1983.
Together they raised their blended family in Anchorage and retired: Kathy in 2011, and Steve in 2012. In October 2014, they began their RV adventures together. They had so much fun seeing the U.S. and Canada, visiting family and friends, and had celebrated their 37th anniversary together.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Esther; his wife, Kathy; sister, Cheryl (Tom) Richardson; brother, Jim (Jo) Flippen; children, Jim (Carien) Moore, Missy (Guy) Conley, Jeremy (Lois) Flippen; granddaughters, Savannah Moore, Kya Conley and Abagail Flippen; many nieces, nephews, friends and his much-loved Bernese mountain dog, Kodiak. He was preceded in death by his father, George Flippen; his grandparents, Art and Connie Hall; and grandmother, Ethel Horton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity. His ashes will be scattered in Resurrection Bay in Seward, Alaska, at a later date.
