June 21, 2020

George Jay Moore Jr., age 78, died at his home on Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Anchorage, Alaska.

George Jay Moore Jr. was born on May 25, 1942, in Bloomington, Ill., to parents George J. Moore Sr. and Lois Moore. After experiencing many triumphant adventures as a young man, George moved with his family to Eagle River, Alaska, in 1974. There he started and ran his own successful drywall company, Bruin Interiors Inc., for more than a decade. George's hard work and his wit quickly made him legendary in the 49th state and allowed him to pursue many avenues of entrepreneurship. Among his accomplishments was his thriving residential home building business, Bruin Builders Inc. The comradery George established with his employees, clients, subcontractors and vendors was uniquely unprecedented in the field and truly made him a one-of-a-kind businessman who was loved by all.

George was a highly respected man who was deeply involved in construction for the majority of his life. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold mining, socializing and storytelling. No one will forget his love of spending his days with his dogs and watching old westerns. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving, generous, kind and hilariously charismatic person.

George is survived by his wife of 20 years, Deborah Moore of Anchorage; his brother, Merle Moore of Naples, Fla.; his daughter and son-in-law, TaLisha and Joe Desjarlais of Anchorage; his grandchildren, Danni and Jaxon Desjarlais of Anchorage; his stepdaughter and her husband, Trina and JJ Kindred of Eagle River; his stepson, Trevor Howell of Anchorage; and his stepgrandchildren, Sierra Armstrong, Jakub Kindred, Kobi Kindred, Austyn Stewman and Rylie Howell of Anchorage. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Jay Moore Sr. and Lois Moore of Illinois; his brother, Orville "Hoss" Moore of Illinois; and his son, Timothy David Moore of Illinois.

A visitation is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Legacy Funeral Home Heritage Chapel at Angelus, 440 East Klatt Road. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life. His interment will immediately follow the visitation at Angelus Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society - Alaska Chapter, 3851 Piper Street, Ste U240, Anchorage, AK 99508; or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
