Henry Busse

Jan 19, 1944 -

Aug 30, 2020

Hewitt Lake and former Anchorage, Alaska, resident Henry August Busse, 76, passed peacefully on Aug. 30, 2020, after a brief hospitalization. His ashes will be spread at a later time at the cabin he loved.

Henry was born on Jan. 19, 1944, in Stevens Point, Wis., to Henry A. and Evelyn (Schlichting) Busse. He moved to Alaska in 1954, to live with his aunt and uncle, Harold and Helen Schlichting, of Harold's Rent A Truck.

Henry lived a very full and varied life, from being a member of East Anchorage High School's first graduating class in 1962, being a Golden Gloves boxer, serving with pride and distinction as a sailor aboard the carrier USS Hancock, being a truck driver and pioneer on Alaska's North Slope in the mid-60s, working for and then managing the family business, Harold's Rent A Truck. Henry was always willing to help anyone; he was spirited, strong and active. He loved the adventure that the Alaska outdoors had to offer, camping, boating, snowmachining, four-wheeling and fishing. He gave his family and many friends experiences of a lifetime they'll never forget. There was always a dog or two at all times in Henry's life and heart, from his early days in Wisconsin with his Grampa's collie on the farm, to his best buddies Cindy and Coal at the cabin, and many, many in between.

He will live on in the hearts and memories of those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by sons and their wives, Travis M. (Katrina) Busse of Anchorage and Curtis M. (Sharon) Busse of Idaho; five granddaughters, Emma, Ally, Ella, Kahlan and Keira; sisters, Evelyn and Joann; countless nieces, nephews and cousins; his right-hand man for 42 years, Fred Arnold and his family; and his faithful four-legged companion, Coal.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; baby daughter, Karina Lynelle Busse; and sisters, Lynelle Busse and Neta Kay Van Buren.

If desired, you can make a memorial donation to a charity that touches your heart.
