Longtime Alaska resident Ivan D. Frey, 65, passed away at his home in Willow, Alaska, on Aug. 19, 2020.

A private memorial will be held for the family.

Ivan was born on April 19, 1955, in Spartanburg, S.C., to Sam Frey and Hazel Templeton-Oates. He moved to Alaska in 1965, and graduated from Eielson High School in 1973. He also worked for the State of Alaska until his death.

Ivan loved fishing, camping, hunting and pretty much anything outdoors. He always enjoyed a good meal and good times with family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Rafiki Frey of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers and their wives, Kimberly and Dayana Frey of Anchorage and Ahla-Taki and Zakiya Oates of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Karen Frey of Wasilla, Alaska; and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Frey; and his mother, Hazel Templeton-Oates.
