Jacob Michael Johnson, known by friends as "Jay," went home to meet his personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 26, 2020. He was 36 years old. Sadly, his passing was from natural causes and unexpected. His final moments were at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, with a family member by his side.
Jacob was born and raised in Anchorage. He attended East High School. After high school he worked in Anchorage as a certified auto audio technician, installing car stereos and auto starts. He loved his work.
In 2009 he suffered a spinal cord injury due to a diving accident, but that didn't hinder Jacob from living life to his fullest. In 2012, He teamed up with physical therapist and friend Valarie Maeker and together they co-founded and launched The Alaska Spinal Cord Injury Support Group.
He is survived by his, mother, Maydeen Johnson of Anchorage; father, Michael Johnson of Anchorage; sister, Janelle Johnson and Scott Wherley of Anchorage; nephew, Nate Wherley of Anchorage; aunt, Marlene Bradley and uncle Tom Bradley of Wasilla, Alaska; cousin, Audrey Bradley of Wasilla; uncle, David Abang and cousin Tera Abang of Anchorage; cousin, Tasha Abang of Idaho; uncle, Darrell and cousin Brandon Abang of Washington; uncle, Joe, aunt Chrissy and Johnson cousins of Anchorage; grandmother, Arlene Johnson of Anchorage; and also many more relatives in Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his dearly loved and cherished grandparents, Marcelo and Diana Abang, who also resided in Anchorage.
He loved going to the movies, music, listening to Pastor John Piper, spending time with family, get-togethers and making new friends. He was a positive inspiration to many. He is loved by so many of us and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jacob Johnson will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020, at 3 p.m. at ChangePoint Alaska, 6689 Changepoint Drive, Anchorage, AK 99518.
