Longtime Alaska resident Jean Jilwan, age 67, passed away peacefully on Sept. 3, 2020, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska.
Jean was born on May 5, 1953, to Youssef and Jamileh Jilwan in Bsharri, Lebaanon. Bsharri is the birthplace of the famous philosopher and sculptor Kahlil Gibran, he is the best known as the author of the Prophet. He moved to Anchorage in 1977, and never left. He was well known in Anchorage as "the flowerman." He was well loved by all that met him. He brought lots of smiles and joy with his flowers, his charisma and character.
Jean is preceded in death by his mother, Jamileh; and father, Youssef Jilwan. He is survived by his sister, Souhayla Daher and nephew, Charles Daher, and his family in Lebanon; by his sister, Houda and her husband, George BouGhosn and nephews, Assaad and Ziad; nieces, Mireille and Jihane; his family in California; by his brother, Emile and his wife, Marie and nephew, John in California; and nephew, Andrew and his wife, Emily in Montana; brother, Assia and his wife, Daad and nephew, Matthew in Anchorage; by his relatives of the Michael, Estabrook and Hudspeth families of Anchorage; and by other relatives in Lebanon and worldwide.
A private family mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe. The family invites all to join the service through Facebook, via Our Lady Guadalupe Parish Facebook page, on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at 3 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted with Janssen Funeral Homes.
