Jean was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on July 29, 1939, at the Alaska Railroad Hospital to Jean and Arthur Reekie. Jean's parents immigrated from Scotland in 1929 with her brothers, Arthur and William. Jean loved growing up in Alaska, living downtown on M Street her childhood years. Jean's first job was usherette at the Empress Theatre on 4th Avenue when she was 14. Jean graduated in 1957 from Anchorage High School, now West. After high school, Jean went to work for National Bank of Alaska while raising her family. Jean became involved in politics when she worked for the Alaska Elections during the Egan administration. Jean later worked for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union until her retirement in 1986. In retirement, Jean loved spending time at her cabin on the Little Willow River, spending hours playing cards with friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family, especially to Las Vegas, Nev., where she loved to play the slot machines. Jean became a member of Pioneers of Alaska and loved being involved in all aspects of the Pioneers. Jean was so proud when she was selected to be Queen Regent in 2009 and then went on to serve as president. Jean loved keeping in contact with her Anchorage High classmates and attending all the reunions throughout the years.
Jean is survived by her husband, Raymond Lee; brother, Arthur (Nancy) Reekie; daughters, Jackie (Joe) Kapper, Linda (Craig) Murray and Cindy Lee (Doug Parry); son, Jim Lee (Stephanie); five grandchildren two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William; daughter, Kelly Ann; and great-grandson, Michael. We will remember Jean as always smiling, never complaining and the love she had for her hometown of Anchorage.
Jean's family wishes to say a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers who took care of her the last four years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cancer Society of Alaska or an animal rescue group.
