Jeannine Kaye Samuelson, 73, passed away at Alaska Regional Hospital on March 2, 2019, following her courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born Jeannine Kaye Shannon in Deland, Fla., on Sept. 13, 1945, to retired Naval Officer Andrew Shannon and wife Virginia Shannon. Jeannine growing up witnessed many moves to different cities and eventually different schools. She adapted well and developed a wonderful engaging personality which endeared her to everyone she met. Jeannine was intelligent, very talented, she played the piano, learned to paint with oil and watercolors, and was a superior writer and gourmet chef. In high school Jeannine was an active member of the Rainbow Girls, as well as a popular member of her graduating class of 1963 from N.B. Forrest High School in Jacksonville, Fla. After graduation she studied to become a paralegal for several law firms and had her own court reporting firm in Alaska. In 1976, she met and married her husband John Samuelson. After numerous assignments they were assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska in September 1991. Upon their arrival to Alaska a light dusting of snow welcomed them, and Jeannine knew she was home. John and Jeannine had one more assignment out of Alaska and returned after retiring in 1992. She loved everything about Alaska the winter, snow, the cold days and nights, and long summer days. Even more then Alaska, Jeannine loved her dogs: Tyde, Batter, Ginger and Kodi. She was a strong Christian and a member of the First Methodist Church of Anchorage. She will truly be missed by her brother, Retired Col. Dr. John Shannon (Beverly); nephew, David Shannon; niece, Lisa (Mark); and their son, Max Middleton.
After 43 years of marriage, the light went out in my life and the world got a little darker. Her ashes will be interred with her husband upon his passing at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
