Joanie Hazel Kalmakoff, 64, passed away on Jan. 23, 2020, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Joanie was born on Nov. 29, 1955, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to parents Hazel Mary Deater (Walker) and Earl Darling Deater. Joanie attended Kodiak High School and graduated with the class of 1974. It was in high school that she met Harvey Kalmakoff Sr. and they were married on April 25, 1975, in Kodiak, Alaska. Joanie lived by the motto that it is better to give than to receive.
Joanie is survived by daughter, Tania Brackett; sons, Casey Kalmakoff, Harvey Kalmakoff Jr., Nathan Kalmakoff and Chris Kalmakoff; son-in-law, Josh Brackett; daughters-in-law, Nikki Kalmakoff and Margie Kalmakoff; granddaughters, Siranda Brackett, Jordana Shangin, Harlynn Kalmakoff, Ashlynn Kalmakoff and Lovanna Kalmakoff; grandsons, Kelsen Brackett and Easton Brackett; mother, Hazel Mary Deater (Walker); twin sister, Jacque Shuravloff; sisters, Ladean Burkhardt, Earlene Berg, Darlene Rounsaville and Marlene Deater; and brothers, Dean Deater, Christopher Deater and Darren Deater.
A visitation will take place at 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage. Pastor Marlon will officiate the service. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the South Central Ahklun Mountains Building, 4501 Diplomacy Drive in Anchorage.
Arrangements were entrusted to Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
