Jul 23, 2020

Joanne Mosesian peacefully passed away at her home at the age of 75 on July 23, 2020.

She was born in Long Beach, Calif. on Dec. 5, 1944, the only child of Joe and Sally Dockwiller. At the age of 12, she came to Alaska in 1956. She graduated from Anchorage High School in 1962. She graduated from Cal-Poly University, San Luis Obispo in 1966 majoring in English. While at Cal-Poly she met her future husband, Mike Mosesian. Joanne won two pageants in 1964: Homecoming Queen for Cal-Poly and Maid of Cotton for the state of California. On September 9, 1967, she married Mike and they lived in Bakersfield, Calif. Joanne and Mike decided to move to Alaska in 1972 where Joanne continued to teach high school and Mike began the hydroponic tomato business, now known as Bell's Nursery. With a thriving tomato and flower business established, Joanne and her mother Sally opened a gift shop and coffee bar to create a true destination shopping experience for Anchorage in 1980.

Anyone who knew Joanne could see that she loved to talk and especially make connections with people wherever she went. She was generous, elegant, resilient, witty, and intuitive making her a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Guided by her devout Catholic faith, she brought many into the Church. She had a great devotion to the Miraculous Medal of Our Lady which was her signature gift to bring souls closer to Christ.

Joanne's family members include her husband, Mike; four daughters, Nicole Syren and her husband Lester Syren, Marie-Louise Schirda and her husband Stefan Schirda, Joanna Mosesian, and Sarah Mosesian; two sons, Andreas and Octavian Mosesian. She was dearly loved by her ten grandchildren who affectionately called her "Gaga." A private funeral and internment will be held with her family.
