John Shelby Barlow, 70, passed away on Feb. 27, 2020. John was born on Nov. 13, 1949, in Park City, Ky., to the late John and Lou Barlow. John enjoyed fishing and spending time playing with his dog Poker and his great-grandkids. John Shelby Barlow was a retired Command Sergeant Major 207th Regiment. John was a long-time resident of the Anchorage community.

John Barlow was the sixth of nine children in the Barlow family including Charles, Bettye, Rogenia, Mary, Phyllis, Edward, Frankie and Virginia Barlow. John is survived by his wife, Josephine Barlow; Fredrick May Jr. and Kedrick May; granddaughter, Chantel Rushing; grandsons, Kedrick May Jr. and Fredrick May III; great-grandson, Norris Rushing; and great-granddaughter, Aa'Myah Rushing.

A visitation will be held at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 14, 2020, at 1 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m. A gathering will be held at the VFW Post 9978, 101 Oklahoma Street in Anchorage, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. A burial will be held on June 19, 2020, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
