Oct 8, 2020

John Thomas Ogle of Anchorage, Alaska, "slipped the surly bonds of Earth" to be embraced by the arms of Jesus on Oct. 8, 2020, following a heroic fight against cancer. Born on April 17, 1955, in Pendleton, Ore., John lived an adventurous and self-reliant life – like many Alaskans. After graduating high school in Seattle, he signed on to his first king crab fishing boat and spent many decades as a commercial fisherman in Dutch Harbor and Bristol Bay. John also enjoyed the outdoors as a snow skier, certified scuba diver and pilot. John touched many lives with his generous spirit, kind-heartedness and unique sense of humor. He was marked by a strong work ethic and even rescued a fellow crew member who had fallen overboard into the Bering Sea.

John was preceded in death by his father, Darr Ogle. He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Jan; with her daughter, Kacey Pellegrini and friend Daniel Ernesto; his daughters, Shannon and Michelle; his sister, Deborah Ogle McGuire. and aunt, Helen Ogle Anderson. He is also survived by his mother, Audrey Lundy Schmidt; stepfather, Oswald A. Schmidt; sister, Laurie Schmidt Tryfiates (George) in Virginia; and many admiring nieces and nephews.

John's family appreciates the faithful friendship of John "Eddie" Sergeeff, along with the friendship of Pastors Jimmy Stewart and Brian Chronister. A private burial will take place in Pendleton at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be provided to the Seattle Fishermen's Memorial, P.O. Box 17356, Seattle, WA 98107; https://www.seattlefishermensmemorial.org/donate.
