Judy Weimer

1940 -

Mar 8, 2020

Mrs. Judy Orr Weimer, age 79, passed quietly in her sleep on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Dedicated to her family and service to her community, Judy's unexpected loss will be missed by the many whose lives were touched by her generous spirit, tenacity and devotion. Loving wife of 58 years to Robert E. "Pete" Weimer; mother of Robert M. (Lisa) Weimer and Leola (Barron) Rutherford; grandmother of Tristin, Morgan, Amber, Heather, Terek, Kalena and Garrett; sister to Pat, Bob, Diane, Jack, Bonnie and Russell; and aunt to 16 nieces/nephews and their families. Judy was known affectionately as the "pie lady" and organizer of family game nights, Easter egg hunts and creatively themed birthday parties. We will all miss our beloved family matriarch's loyalty, drive and impressive ability to organize.

Judy Weimer was a retired teacher and volunteer extraordinaire who led Girl Scout Troops for 52 years; ran the Anchorage Senior Center's monthly birthday party for 38 years and led the Pioneer's of Alaska Woman's Igloo #4 as President, Queen Regent, Scholarship Chair and Children's Christmas Party Organizer for 28 years. If you ever attended a Fur Rondy Pancake Feed or Pioneer Stories gathering, you probably met Judy. Her legacies include establishing the first elementary school computer lab for ASD and Susitna Girl Scout Council's annual Brownie Break-up tradition. Judy led troops of girls to Japan, on week-long canoe trips, overnight Lock-ins and Encampments. Mrs. Weimer helped mentor the first Girl Scout Gold Award recipient in Alaska (her daughter Leola in 1982) and continued mentoring numerous other Girl Scout Gold Award recipients ever since. Judy also wrote countless letters of recommendation and helped many girls achieve their dreams of going to college.

Please help us honor this remarkable woman by joining us in her Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 18, 2020, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., at the Anchorage Senior Center 1300 East 19th Avenue in Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Pioneers of Alaska Scholarship Fund so Judy Weimer's legacy may continue: checks payable to POA WI#4, with note "Scholarship Fund," mailed to POA Woman's Igloo #4, P.O.
