Judy Williams

Nov 23, 1943 -

June 12, 2020

Longtime Alaska resident Judy Williams, 76, died June 12, 2020, at her and her husbands home in Anchorage, Alaska.

A service will be held at SonRise Community Church, formerly known as Mt. View Baptist Church, located at 302 North Bragaw Street in Anchorage, on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 1:30 p.m., for viewing with the service starting at 2 p.m.

Judy moved to Alaska with her dad, mom and brothers in 1956 from River Falls, Wis. She graduated from Anchorage High School in 1960 and traveled with God's Invasion Army, a ministry group, after graduation. When she returned to Anchorage in winter 1963, she met the love of her life Wendell. They were married on June 18, 1965. Together they had three children and one foster daughter. They later welcomed eight grandchildren.

Judy enjoyed spending her time raising her children and caring for her husband. For the last 64 years, Judy volunteered tirelessly at SonRise Community Church in roles including, but not limited to, high school youth leader, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, children's church director, nursery coordinator, janitor and cook for Kids Club, just to name a few. She enjoyed traveling with Wendell and they have had many adventures together. She absolutely loved serving others, whether it was preparing meals for someone in need, sewing or altering wedding dresses, catering receptions for newly weds, leading Bible studies with women from her church or entertaining people in her home. Everyone was welcome and it wasn't unusual for her to host 20-30 guests at a time. If there was a need she was always ready to step into the gap and do whatever was needed. She also loved to spend time at their condo in Hawaii, where they attended Waianae Baptist Church.

Judy is survived by her husband, Wendell; children, Wendy, James, Jerry and Katie; grandchildren, Kimberly, Clara Jo, Dominic, James, Stephen, Matthew, Alyssa and Timothy; and two brothers, Darrell and Dennis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Verna Black; and brother, Rodger Black.

Her family asks, in lieu of flowers, to make donations to SonRise Community Church, for the Junior Church remodel.
