Kevin Randall Young, age 57, passed away on July 23, 2020. He was born on Dec. 31, 1962, in Martinez, Calif., to John Willis Young and Hazel Marie Spicer. He married his longtime friend and love, Victoria Young, in 1993.
Kevin moved to Alaska in 1981. He started his career as jeweler, an avid lover of intricacies. Then in 1996, he took over his father's business, Young's Concrete, one of the only businesses of its kind in the state.
He had many hobbies, from racing RC cars, to learning all the secrets of great magicians. He loved to entertain, loved to be surrounded by family and friends and serenade them with his Gibson guitar. He was a real sports fanatic both on and off the field. He played softball for 40-plus years, and coached little league teams for both his children and grandchildren. A wicked curve ball seemed to be one of the many tricks up his sleeve.
Kevin was actively involved with the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. His 8-year battle ignited his passion to always fight for a cure.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Vickie Young; and their four children, Chadd Irvine, Meagan Kern, Parker Young and Joe Eckl; his grandchildren, Cale, Colt Randall, Jameson, Jaxx, Savanna, Aiden, Shaylinn and Arabella; his father, John Willis Young; three brothers, John Jr., Kenneth and David Young; and sister, Kathy Girodano; plus, many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
To quote a line from The Marshall Tucker Band -
"And there's fire on the mountain. Lightening in the air. Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there."
A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later time. In lieu of flowers, Kevin asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Anchorage.
