Larry Robinson

Larry Russell Robinson, 78, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 8, 2020, at his home in Chugiak, Alaska. Larry first came to Alaska in 1973 while stationed in the Army. He immediately fell in the love with the state and subsequently decided that Alaska was where he would spend the rest of his life. He retired honorably from the Army as a Captain in 1982 at Fort Lewis, Wash., and moved back to Alaska that same year. Upon his return to Alaska, Larry started a second career as a Correctional Officer working at Cook Inlet Pre-trial, he retired as a Sergeant in 1998. While serving in the Army he commanded A troop 12th Calvary 5th Infantry Regiment Mechanized from 1968 to 1969 in Vietnam. He was wounded four times and awarded the Bronze Star with "V" for Valor, Purple Heart and Commendation Medal. Towards the end of his Army career he earned a master's degree in sociology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and restoring classic cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russel Arthur Robinson and Theresa "Boorsma" Robinson, who are buried in Grand Rapids, Mich.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Robinson, who resides in Grand Rapids; and his five children, Laurie L. Morales, Larry L. Robinson, James R. Robinson, Christopher A. Robinson and Holly C. Franco. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

Larry's remains will stay in Chugiak and a marker for Larry will be placed at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery in the coming months. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.
