Larry Odin Berg

Nov 25, 1960 -

Jan 13, 2020

Larry Odin Berg passed away suddenly, at the age of 59, on Jan. 13, 2020. He was born in Walnut Creek, Calif., in 1960, and moved with his family to Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 8. He attended Dimond High School where he made many lifelong friends. Larry spent 18 years as a Teamster UPS driver, worked for Greatland Construction for several years, and then became a glazier for Replacement Glass Company for most of the last 20 years. He was considered an expert installer of specialty glass, including industrial safety glass, and mentored many of those he worked with.

In his younger years, Larry excelled at outdoor sports including competitive swimming, downhill skiing and snowmobile racing, and in his later years he enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed entertaining others and was a gracious host. He and his longtime partner and fiancee, Christina Diaz, greatly enjoyed their travels together, particularly their trips to Hawaii. Larry often fancied moving to Hawaii, and was infamous for wearing his Hawaiian shirts year-round.

Larry is survived by his fiancee, Christina Diaz; her daughter, Victoria Bennett, husband Travis and son Tael Carbaugh; his daughter, Sherilyn Berg, her daughter Arianna and fiance Tom Nilles; and his son, Garrett Berg, his wife Rashael Berg and son Mason; his four brothers and their families, Mark Berg and his wife Cheri' Berg, Randy Berg, Brad Berg and his wife Ramona Rolle-Berg, and Tim Berg and his wife Sylvia Berg; and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a loving partner, father and brother, and a loyal friend. He had a huge heart and really treasured those close to him. He believed in living life to the fullest, and was very happy to have taken off much of last summer to spend with his long-time high school buddies that gathered in town for their 40th reunion, and to fit in a number of fishing trips. He was taken from us much too early, but he was able to live his final year surrounded by family and friends, doing what he enjoyed most.

A celebration of his life was held by his family and many friends at Chilkoot Charlie's in February, and his family is planning to spread his ashes over the Chugach Mountains in the spring.
