Lena Winfield Green
Nov 15, 1924 -
May 24, 2020
Lena Winfield Green, age 95, a longtime resident of Anchorage, Alaska, returned home to her Heavenly Father on May 24, 2020. She was born on Nov. 15, 1924, in Waco, Texas, and moved to Alaska with her husband and family in 1966. Her career primarily consisted of working and retiring from the Anchorage School District. She and L.V. Sr. opened Sound Warehouse Records in Mt. View and owned it for many successful years.
Lena experienced challenges throughout her life including the passing of her husband L.V. Green Sr. in April 1993, she also buried her two oldest sons L.V. Green Jr. in November 2005 and Van Lee Green in April 2011, which is something that no mother is ever expected to do. She never wavered in her faith, always had a smile on her face and maintained the brightest outlook on life. Her passion was her family. She loved spending time with her family and spoiling all of her grandchildren. Lena was loving, patient and was loved and respected by many. She had a great heart for people, and she never met a soul that she did not like unless you messed with her family. She constantly gave of herself to help others, and was a pillar of strength for her family. Her spirit touched all who were blessed enough to be in her presence. She will leave a hole in our hearts and lives that can never be filled. We will miss her dearly, and our love for her will remain in our hearts forever. Even though you're gone from here, one day we will meet again at the gates of Heaven to walk the path that's never ending. Mother words cannot express what you mean to us. Always you're loving family.
Lena is survived by her children, Carolyn Ray of Anchorage, Edgar and Veronica Green of Lithonia, Ga., Edward Green of Boise, Idaho, Larry and Denise Green of Anchorage, Robert Green of Auburn, Wash., Cathy and Richard Brinker of Las Vegas, Nev., Cynthia and Edward Sanabria of Kuna, Idaho, and Cycelia Gumennik of Anchorage; and her siblings: sister, Willie B. Johnson Haliburton of Waco; and brother, Ira Johnson of Waco.
Lena was preceded in death by and is now reunited with her husband, L.V. Green Sr.; her oldest sons, L.V. Green Jr. and Van Lee Green; parents, Jimmy Winfield and Etta Mae Campbell Winfield; and siblings, Allen Morill, Genell Morill, Jimmy Lee Winfield, Joe Winfield, Christine Johnson Fields and Roy Lee Johnson.
"I'm Free"
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with time of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undone grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the rightness judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing."
