Anchorage, Alaska, resident Leon R. Stephan, 59, died suddenly at home on May 22, 2020, surrounded by his close family.
Visitation will be held on May 29, 2020, at 11 a.m. in Eklutna Village, followed by a service at 12 p.m. Pallbearers: Eddie Myas Sr., Eric Myas, Anthony Holmes, Alex Rehm, Jason Adams and Jason Chilligan.
Leon was born on Nov. 19, 1960, in Anchorage. He attended school at Mt Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska. He had experience in construction, painting and commercial fishing. He was Hazwoper certified, and had other training and certificates. Leon was sober almost 3 years before passing. Leon was married to Annie for 30-plus years; they had their only daughter, Shawna Mae. He was a proud grandpa "PaPa" to Tiana, Eddie Jr. and Eliejah. Leon was a beloved son to Alberta and Leo Stephan, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather. He loved to go fishing, camping and hunting, and providing for his family. He was a very helpful, loving, hard working, proud man. He made everyone smile. He was silly and playful to many nieces, nephews and children, especially his own grandchildren who he loved dearly. Always thinking of others, if anyone needed help you would call "Uncle Leon." His belief was grandbabies come first. Leon will be greatly missed by all, especially his "Baboo" daughter.
He is in heaven fishing, wanting everyone together and remembering the good times. He is survived by his parents, Alberta and Leo Stephan; wife, Annie; daughter, Shawna; son-in-law, Eddie Myas Sr.; grandchildren, Tiana, Eddie Jr. and Eliejah; sisters, Gloria Lorah, Mary Charmley, Angela Waskey, Robbin Cooks and Raven Stephan; brothers, Lee Stephan, Lester Stephan and Lewis Stephan; 17 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and -nephews; and two great-great-niece and -nephew. He is preceded in death by uncle, Pete Ezi; sister, Susie Rush; brother, Lenny "Mok" Stephan, Ernie Moses and John Steve.
