Linda Leady

Linda K. Leady, 65, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on May 27, 2020, in Denver, Colo., while recovering from stem cell transplant treatments for cancer. She was born on Aug. 5, 1954, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to Richard and Ruth Leady. She married her lifelong love, Scott Brodt on Dec. 13, 1982. They have two sons, Geric Brodt and Spencer Brodt, both of Denver.

Linda graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1972, from Bowling Green State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in education. In 1990, she earned a Masters of Education in special education from the University of Oregon. She and Scott have lived in Alaska for 40 years. Linda was a special education teacher and the Special Education Department Chair at Mears Middle School in the Anchorage School District. She retired in May 2016.

Linda is survived by her two sisters, Marcia Benner of Portage, Ohio, and Beth Van Horn of Big Sky, Mont.; sister-in-law, Susan Brodt-Cohen of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; and mother-in-law, Jane Brodt of Venice, Fla.

Linda was caring soul who dedicated her life's work to helping people with special needs. She could relate to people from all backgrounds and was a sincere communicator in her work and with her friends. She was a super mother who gave love and support to her two sons. Linda was a gourmet cook and loved the challenge of making a complex recipe for Scott and others to enjoy. Her favorite crafts were making fused glass art objects and reed baskets. Linda enjoyed being with and caring for her two pugs, Gordie and Hobbs. All of her family and friends will miss her presence in our lives.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held on her birthday, Aug. 5, 2020, at 5 p.m., at the Fox Hollow Chalet in Tanglewood Park, 11701 Brayton Drive in South Anchorage. Linda's ashes will be returned to the earth in two of her favorite places: Sunrise, Alaska, and Horseshoe Lake, Alaska.
