Linda Washington

Linda Faye Washington went on to glory on Monday, July 6, 2020. Linda was born on Dec. 7, 1953, in Iberville Parish, Plaquemine, La. She graduated from Iberville Parish High School in Plaquemin. After high school, Linda became the chef at the Baton Rouge Country Club in Baton Rouge, La. As the chef she made a variety of dishes including ice sculptures, chocolate falls, petit fours, etc. She learned her cooking skills from her mother.

Linda arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1982. She attended Charter College and received a business management certificate. She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from University of Alaska Anchorage. Linda found an interest in teaching preschool children and went on to receive her child development associates degree from UAA. Linda stayed in the teaching field for 25 years. She also worked nights for parents on child care assistance by working for the "parent's night out" program. She was unable to continue working starting in 2004.

Linda was loving and caring. She would pick up people off the street and try to save them from themselves. She was a true humanitarian. Linda was a loving sister, friend and confidante.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sisters, Darlene Williams-Prades of Laurel, Md., Arlene Nelson-Frelix of Anchorage and Jennifer Nelson of Anchorage; three brothers, James Nelson of Anchorage, Larry Nelson of Bellevue, Wash., and Carl Nelson (Laura) of Latham, N.Y.; and a host of relatives and friends. Linda is preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Mae Nelson; and her father, William Nelson.

A Going Home Service will be held at Eagle River Missionary Baptist Church in Eagle River, Alaska, on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 12 p.m.
