Loren Haller

Lifelong Alaskan Loren J. Haller passed away at home in Wasilla, Alaska, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020. Born at Elmendorf AFB hospital to Michael and Kim Haller, he was the oldest of five children. Loren lived his early life in Minnesota and Maryland, as his father served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard. The family returned to Anchorage in 1986.

Shortly after high school, at East, Loren enlisted in the Army National Guard. When the War on Terror began, he transferred to the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood and deployed to Iraq in 2004. Their mission was the subject of Martha Raddatz' book, "The Long Road Home" and National Geographic mini-series of the same name.

On Aug. 26, 2012, Loren married Keely (Lofland) whom he described as his "best friend and true love." His family noted that "community service was important to Loren. As a youth, he enjoyed Boy Scouting; later, he gladly supported veterans at Stand Down, during Veterans and Memorial Days events, with Wounded Warriors and activities with the Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club."

Loren was preceded in death by grandmothers, Margaret Riley and Jean Haller; grandfathers, Melvin Mizar, Harry Haller and Jack Kampmeier; and uncle, Clay Mizar. He is survived by wife, Keely; sons, Michael, Jack and Gabriel; grandfather, Calvin Riley; grandmother, Dee Kampmeier; parents, Michael and Kim; siblings, Ryan (Carolina), Logan (Jamie), Erin (Dan) Gallagher and Megan (Michelle) Haller; and in-laws, Melanie and Kevin Lynch.
