Nov 8, 1926 -

Sep 27, 2020

Lorraine Anne Lamoureux was born Nov. 8, 1926 to Georgina May (Ward) and Alfred Joncas in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Lorraine died Sept. 27, 2020 in Anchorage, Alaska. Lorraine met her husband Staff Sargent Rene' "Frenchy" Lamoureux a U.S. Air Force man stationed at the wartime U.S. Air Base in Edmonton in 1943. Lorraine was in her senior year of high school and they married a year later. The couple was stationed in Edmonton until years end and the closure of the base in 1946. Lorraine was admitted to the U.S. under the "War Bride Act" and became a proud voting citizen in 1952.

Their duty station after Edmonton was Great Falls, Mont. where the couple and their two small daughters lived for three years and where Rene' "Frenchy" became a flight engineer making many flights from Great Falls to Alaska. In 1950, Frenchy decided to make a station change and Alaska became forever home for their family. Rene' "Frenchy" became the line chief at the MATS terminal on Elmendorf and when his enlistment was up after 10 years of service made the decision to live a civilian life again.

Lorraine was a stay at home mom after the service days were over and the family settled in at the West 32nd Avenue home where she lived in from 1956 to 2020. Over the years Lorraine learned the trade business when Frenchy owned Anchorage Travel Bureau and later during the pipeline days as she worked for Alyeska Pipeline Company in the accounting department for three years.

When her four children were raised she assisted her husband Frenchy, a big game hunting guide, in the day to day operations of hunting camps in Kodiak Island and at Lake Lorraine on the Alaska Peninsula.

Lorraine was an accomplished needle worker and won many ribbons at the Alaska State Fair over the years. Her hobbies include stamp collecting and a large collection of "Old Country Rose" china. In later years she oversaw the operations of the small mobile home park next to her home starting in 1978 until her death in 2020.

Lorraine considered her greatest life's achievement her four children. Lorraine's ashes will be dispersed in the Talkeetna Mountains at the Cache Lake Camp with her late husband's Rene' "Frenchy" Lamoureux. A headstone reflecting Lorraine and Frenchy' s life will be erected at the Cache Lake Camp site.

Lorraine leaves her brother, Dr. Phil Samis of Toronto, Ontario Canada. Her daughters, Linda Lamoureux (Ralph Garafola) of Anchorage, Lana Lamoureux Ozmento (Ken Ozmento) of Homer. Her sons, Rene' (Gus) Lamoureux (Koreen Lamoureux) and Paul Lamoureux of Anchorage. Grandsons' Shaun Tucker and Travis Lamoureux of Anchorage. Grand-daughter's Shannon Tucker of Anchorage, Jennina Rheault (Sean Rheault) of Chugiak, Lydia Lamoureux of Anchorage and Dr. Loreen Stromberg of Albuquerque, N. M.
