Lucille Castro

Lucille Katherine Castro, 95, passed away peacefully at Providence Horizon House on May 22, 2020.

She was born on Jan. 13, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas.

Lucille lived most of her life in San Antonio, and traveled the world. Lucille moved to Alaska in 1996, where she worked at Gingerbread and Carousel Daycare. She enjoyed rocking babies and was known as Grandma to hundreds of children.

Lucille loved being active, shopping, dancing, movies and bingo. She savored her friends at Horizon House and was delighted to attend the prom and be crowned the Prom Queen.

Lucille was preceded in death by granddaughter, Sharron Lilley Nutt; and grandson, Sidney Lee Robertson Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Rita Soto (Joe) of San Antonio, Vivian Markwell (Malcolm) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Theresa Robertson (Sidney) of Big Lake, Alaska; grandchildren, Steven Urtiaga, Sean Shawcross (Amanda) and Stephen Robertson; great-grandchild, Amyssa Maldonado; great-great-grandchildren, Eric and Ella Shawcross; great-great-great-grandchildren, Daniel and Isabelle Sherman; and numerous family members.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 2 p.m., at Horizon House.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alaska Police and Fire Chaplains, Alaskachaplain.org.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
