Margie (Hertz) Smith

May 4, 1943 -

Mar 6, 2020

Margie (Hertz) Smith died on March 6, 2020, in St. George, Utah, after a short bout with cancer. Ever the hostess, on Feb. 28, 2020, she let friends and family know that her health was going downhill fast and she wanted to thank everyone for being such great friends.

Margie was born in Tacoma, Wash., on May 4, 1943, to her parents Phil and Marge Hertz. The family returned to Alaska in 1946 and lived in Healy and Anchorage.

Never one to sit still for very long, Margie chose a career as flight attendant. In that job she met each of her husbands. Later she and Terry ran the Bluff House B&B in Ninilchik, Alaska. Every summer when they launched the Lil Rascal, the fishing competition was on.

When they finally retired, Margie and Terry traveled in their motor coach playing many games of golf along the way. They finally settled in Lake Havasu, Ariz., and summered in Oregon - always near a golf course. Last year Margie moved to St. George.

Margie was known for being the friend who was the first to appear in times of trouble and the last to leave. She volunteered in many ways and was especially proud of her volunteer work with her dogs: Snickers, Tuffy and Rocky.

Husbands Bob Wien and Terry Smith predeceased her, as did her parents; brother, Dick Hertz; and niece, Rhonda Hertz. Surviving family members include her nephew, Jack Hertz; sister-in-law, Betty Hertz; stepchildren, Bob and Sandi Wien and their children, Kevin and Alayna, Max Smith, Kyla Smith and Blake Smith; and special friends, Bill and Edwinna Etterlien.

No service is planned. Condolences may be sent to Hertz Family, 629 Chellies Circle, Anchorage, AK 99515. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah, St. George.
