Maria Miel Kline, "Ria," passed away on April 22, 2020, in Anchorage, Alaska. Ria was born in Bethel, Alaska, on Jan. 14, 1979. She grew up and attended school in Bethel among a loving community of families and friends. In these early years, Ria formed lifelong friendships with her classmates and their family members which she fostered and cherished her entire life. Her first employment was as a teacher's aide for children at Kilbuck School in Bethel, where she was able to connect with her students in a special way through her own flourishing talents in art and crafts. Some years later Ria moved to Eagle River, Alaska, to join her parents and attended classes at UAA and the Alaska Culinary Academy refining her already advanced skills with cooking and baking. Many were able to celebrate their special occasions with her personalized cakes or enjoy her gourmet meals. In 2010, Ria's passion for art led her to attend the Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) in Santa Fe, N.M. While attending IAIA Ria produced some or her finest originals, prints of which are still enjoyed by many in Alaska and throughout the U.S. today. Upon returning to Alaska, Ria was hired by the Southcentral Foundation and became a Behavioral Health Technician at The Pathway Home in Anchorage. Her work involved the care, health and education of teenagers until the day of her passing. Ria brought a special joy and happiness to all she encountered, especially children. Those that knew her regarded her as the "Ultimate Auntie Ria."
Maria "Ria" Kline is survived by her parents, Bridget and Dennis Kline; sister, Kathleen Leu; brother-in-law, Byron Leu; her brother/nephew, Isaiah Kline; nieces, Marlee Leu, Lili Stone and Kayla Leu-Clark; uncle, Norbert Beans and family; aunties, Agnes (Ed) Bostrom, Susie (Larry) Mike and family, Mary Beans and her family, Bay (Thelma/Walkie) and family; and numerous extended uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ria was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Kline; her paternal grandparents, Albert and Florentine Kline from California; and her maternal grandparents, Billy and Winifred Beans from St. Marys, Alaska. Ria and her grandmother Winifred share the same day of passing 8 years apart.
Ria's Funeral Mass will be attended by her immediate family. A Celebration of Life will be held for all who wish to attend when safety permits such a gathering.
