Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Marjorie Ann McLaughlin, age 92, died peacefully on Aug. 14, 2020, of natural causes. She was born on Sept. 1, 1927, in McAlester, Okla., and most of her growing up years were in the vicinity of Klamath Falls, Ore. After high school, Marjorie met her husband Paul at a Christian college in Lakeland, Fla., and married on April 22, 1950. In 1953, Marjorie and her husband arrived in Alaska and made their life in the Last Frontier. She was preceded in death by two sons who died in their infancy and by her husband Paul who died in 2001.
Marjorie was a member of the International Typographical Union and worked as a union typesetter at a print shop in Anchorage. In mid-life she earned a master's degree in psychology and entered a second career as a marriage and family therapist. Her other interests and activities included: Muldoon Community Assembly of God church, Anchorage Community Concert Band, Young at Heart Swing Band, Alaska Women's Golf Association, Women on Wheels Motorcyle Club and the Anchorage Log Cabin Quilters.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Kelly; grandson, Kelly II; great-grandson, James; and longtime friend, Peggy Wilson. Marjorie spent her final years in Washington and in Arizona to be closer to family and friends. Her death occurred in Arizona and private memorials will be held in Arizona and in Washington. Marjorie's final resting place will be in Wenatchee, Wash., with her husband.
