Martha Alice Valliant

Martha Valliant, 89, passed away at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, on May 25, 2020, after a brief illness.

Martha was born a triplet on Oct. 14, 1930, in Portland, Ore. She completed her undergraduate studies in nursing in Oregon before heading to New York to pursue a master's degree. She spent a number of years as a nurse and nursing instructor in Oregon and California before the lure of Alaska beckoned and she moved to Anchorage in the early 1970s to teach nursing at Anchorage Community College and later University of Alaska Anchorage, from where she retired.

Martha was a longtime volunteer with the Anchorage Concert Association, as well as an avid hiker and gardener. Fiercely independent, Martha had a soft spot for animals of all kinds and always had a cat or dog in her life. Observing the natural world, especially from her cabin in Willow, Alaska, brought her a great deal of joy.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dora; and her sisters. At her request, no services are planned.
