Marvin Paulk, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2020, of a suspected bacterial infection. Marvin, a lifelong Alaskan, was born and raised in Anchorage. He had many close friends and during his lifetime he enjoyed staying in touch with them all. Good friend, Keith Tryck, aptly described him: "Marvin was a breath of fresh air. He made all matter of things just a little bit nicer. Nobody had that comedic timing like Marvin. It was natural for him. Whatever he was up to delivered a smile or chuckle. And, he didn't have to be the center of attention to do it. Marvin would join a group and just naturally fit in, bringing a good joke, a funny quip, an observation lifting everyone. He saw the humor, the good in people and in all things around him; he was a master at giving them words ... the world was a lot bigger with Marvin in it."
His first job, in what would turn out to be a lifelong career in retail, was as a box boy at Market Basket at age 14. After graduating from West High in 1964, he served in the Alaska National Guard from 1967 through 1971. In the '70s he worked for Jack Moore managing the Quik Stop stores. In the early '80s, he opened and managed the AM PM convenience stores. Later he worked for Carroll and Arlene Raney at Value Liquor before retiring in 2012.
Marvin always had a good sense for style. He also enjoyed travel, golf and being a loyal friend, was an avid reader, and loved the cinema and a good meal.
Marvin will be deeply missed by his sister, Loretta Wieler and family of Anchorage; sister, Carol DeBusk and family; his two children, Deana and Deano Paulk; grandsons, Corey (Ashley) Paulk, Cameron and Caden; and his great-granddaughter, Kinsley, all of Everett, Wash. He will also be missed by his many friends.
A celebration of life will be held later this year.
