Michael D. Golick

Oct 17, 1938 -

Dec 20, 2020

Former longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Michael Dean Golick, 82, died peacefully on Dec. 20, 2020, in Anchorage after a lengthy battle with vascular dementia and osteomyelitis. At the time of his passing, he had his daughter with him. He came back to Anchorage in June 2020, and was able to see his son, grandchildren and some close friends in Anchorage prior to his hospice care and passing.

Michael lived the last 10 years of his life at Lake Ashton, Fla., right beside a protected wetland area close to a golf course. He loved to listen to the many sounds of birds and other wildlife right from his protected screen room.

Michael was born and raised in Seattle, Wash., and attended Ballard High School as well as the University of Washington. He moved his wife and two kids to Anchorage in 1977, to work with Alaska Mechanical Incorporated as their chief estimator. He had a reputation in the construction business as being someone who got the job done and made sure that others knew that he did!

Michael had some true passions outside of the workplace. He was an avid chef and his family greatly enjoyed sampling the outcomes of this hobby. He loved playing golf and skeet shooting, and belonged to clubs in Florida doing both of these activities. He took quite a few cruises and was always looking for the next one with the best food going to places he had not yet seen.

Michael is survived by his son, John Golick "JD" (Emily); daughter, Jennifer Latva-Kiskola (Tuomo); grandchildren, Taylor Golick, Connor Golick, Yuri Golick, Niko Latva-Kiskola, Tarja Latva-Kiskola, Markus Latva-Kiskola, John Jr. Golick, Sam Golick, and Wyatt Golick; and his two sisters, Deanna and Margie Golick.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Marjorie Golick; and his wife of almost 50 years, Judith Golick.

A ceremony of life will take place in the summer of 2021, with good food and beer and family and close friends. The service will be announced at a later time.
