Oneatha Kareta Hawk

Jan 11, 1928 -

Oct 5, 2020

Mother Oneatha Kareta Hawk transitioned from death to eternal life on Oct. 5, 2020, in Anchorage, Alaska, at Providence Extended Care. She was 92 years old.

Oneatha was born in Idabel, Okla., on Jan. 11, 1928, to Limmie and Willie Watson and is the seventh of 11 children. She was schooled in Galilee, Okla., from the first through the fifth grade, resumed grades six through 11 in Idabel, and finished the 12th grade in Los Angeles, Calif. She loved school, home and church.

Oneatha was baptized at the age of seven. While attending church in Los Angeles, Bishop C.H. Mason placed his hand on her head and said: "You are a blessed child." Those words were nothing short of a great indication of what her life would look like, as she not only was a blessed woman but a blessing to so many people, everywhere she went; she loved to travel.

Quote: "One Saturday on a rub board in a stationary tub, I gave my heart to The Lord. On Sunday, I believed the Lord to direct my feet to find a Church Of God In Christ and He did. The Lord led me to 337 East Jefferson. The Lord accepted me into that church and Elder L. C. Page was the Pastor." - Oneatha Hawk

After moving to Alaska in 1952, Oneatha met and married Elder Elbert Hawk, and as they say, "The rest is history!"

Oneatha was very active in every community she entered and could always be found helping others. She opened up her home and heart to everyone, saying "He gives me many ways to help in any way it's needed." Helping and ministering to the homeless brought her great joy. She was one of the founders of the Meals on Wheels Program here in Anchorage, and was always on the lookout for ways to do more for her community.

As it relates to "Kingdom" work, Mother Hawk was definitely not a bench member, as she held many positions in the church. Whatever her hands could find to do, she did. She was not above doing what needed to be done for God's kingdom - including crawling under the church, mid-winter, to light the furnace so that there could be heat. She was an unashamed servant and soldier for The Lord and would "thank God, thank God, thank God!" every chance she got. Under the leadership of her pastor, the late Bishop Charles D. Williams, Mother Hawk was the longest standing member of Greater Friendly Temple Church Of God In Christ.

Oneatha is survived by her siblings, Symantha O. Myrick, Reao Watson, Doris Lena Hill; children, Elbert Darrel Hawk, Duane Hawk (Alpha), Debra Elaine Andrus (Oliver); grandchildren, Blythe, Jillian, Issac, Christin, Christopher, Chase, Aaron, Tiffany, Terry, Tia; great-grandchildren, Dontreal, Destiny, Donald, Adrienne, Mark, Tiffony, Devaine, Seven, Kyader, Amantae, Akeem and Evelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Limmie Watson and Willie Eva Edmond-Watson; husband, Elbert Hawk; brothers, L.Z. Watson, Earsell Watson, Darnell Watson, Raymond Watson, Cleavell Watson; sister, Lillie Juanita Warren; son, David C. Harris; daughter, Gwendolyn D.
