Reed Bjarne Christensen, 53, passed away on Oct. 11, 2020, peacefully at home surrounded by family following a 3 1/2-year battle with brain cancer.
Reed was born on Aug. 29, 1967, in Biloxi, Miss., to Bruce and Lilly Christensen. As an Air Force family, Reed and his brothers, Russell and Bryan, grew up in Mississippi, Virginia, Turkey, California, Ohio, Germany, Alabama and Maryland. Reed developed a strong love for God and country.
Reed served a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Osaka, Japan. Reed attended Brigham Young University, where he played lacrosse and avoided studying to spend time with the love of his life, Jonnett Hunter. They married in 1990 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Reed graduated with a bachelor's in accounting and a master's in information systems. In 1994, Reed and Jonnett ventured to Alaska as an auditor for Deloitte and Touche.
While auditing Dowland-Bach Corporation, Reed was offered a full-time accounting position by the end of the week. Over the next 25 years, Reed lived the American Dream. He advanced to Accounting Controller, General Manager, CFO and President of Dowland-Bach before retiring in May 2020.
Reed prioritized faith and family over work achievements. Reed served in a variety of positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including: Scoutmaster, Seminary Instructor, Bishop, High Counselor and Stake Presidency member.
Above all, Reed was most proud of his family. Reed and Jonnett raised four wonderful children: Hunter, Cheyenne, Forrest and Jenna. In recent years, he joyfully welcomed Ashleigh and Vance as in-laws. Together they enjoyed biking, hiking, skiing, kayaking, camping, racquetball, reading and napping.
As a devoted husband, loving father and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Reed's kindness and compassion blessed all who knew him. In remembrance of Reed, be kind; assume the best of others; laugh a lot; and find ways to serve.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at 7 p.m.
