Reverend Charles H. Eddy

Jan 24, 1939 -

Aug 9, 2020

The Reverend Charles H. Eddy, "Chuck," passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, with his wife and children at his side.

He was born in Kentucky, on Jan. 24, 1939, to Henry and Catherine Eddy. He was the first of four children: Susan Schrand, Betsy Eddy and Hank Eddy.

Chuck attended Beechwood High School in Kentucky, then on to Hanover College in Indiana, where he met his first wife Mary Benham-Eddy. They were married until she passed away in 1996.

They moved to Alaska in 1967, and in 1969, he became the Rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and shared leadership with our community for over 30 years.

He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. His approach to the Christian faith was down-to-earth and straightforward, and filled with a sense of wonder. An early advocate of equality for all people, he understood the love of God.

After his retirement from the church he married his second wife Mary Woodward-Eddy and they enjoyed their time living at their cabin in Willow in the summers and living in Arizona in the winters. "Snowbirds" as they liked to say. Mary was by his side when he passed.

Chuck's great loves in life were his family, church, helping others, skiing, golfing, rafting, canoeing and many other adventures.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Betsy and Chuck; and grandchildren, Tyler, Blake and Hannah.

He will be forever in our hearts.

Due to COVID-19 we will have to have a private family service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. It will be livestreamed and recorded so that all may participate. Please go to St. Mary's website, godsview.org, for updates on when that will be.
