Mar 31, 2020

Robert "Bob" Darvin Young passed away on March 31, 2020, at St. John's Hospital in California, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Oregon on July 23,1941, to Robert C. and Bernice Young. Bob was raised in Oakland, Ore., and grew up in the same town as his wife of 58 years Trudy. Bob and Trudy married on July 14, 1962. Bob joined the Air Force in 1962, and served for 22 years with two overseas tours in Vietnam and a 2 year stay on the island of Okinawa. Bob and Trudy lived in Oregon, Washington, North Dakota, Arizona and Texas, before establishing roots in Alaska. After retirement from the Air Force, Bob began a second career in welding and later became an EMT transitioning to work on Alaska's North Slope. Bob retired for good in 2001, and spent his time traveling in his RV, camping at Anchor Point, cruising about in their neon 69 Goat and enjoying his home in Alaska.

Bob was known for his love for his family - and dogs - quiet demeanor, hard-working nature and humility. He was cherished by his friends and family. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii - kids, grandkids and great grandkids in tow - RVing, sharing meals with family and Diet Coke.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy Young; brother, John Young; children, Teresa Thornton and Randy Young; grandchildren, Darvin Thornton, Shelby Thornton, Max Young and Megan Young; and great-grandchildren, Oliver Thornton and Violet Thornton.

Bob was cremated and his ashes will in time be spread in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon. A Celebration of his life will be held on July 23, 2020, at O'Malley's.
