May 19, 2024
Robert E. Evans Jr., 64, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully in his sleep at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Per his request, there will be a viewing at Legacy Funeral Home, 1707 South Bragaw Street, on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 6-9 p.m.
Bob was born in Summit, N.J., to Robert E. Evans Sr. and Betty Johnson Evans on April 13, 1960. He graduated from Kean College with a bachelor's degree in marketing and economics. He met the love of his life, Barbara, in 1994. They were married in 1996 in Carlisle, Pa. Becoming tired of the New Jersey rat race, they packed the truck and moved to Alaska in 2001, settling in Eagle River and then Chugiak. Bob had a wide range of interests, as evidenced by his employment history. He worked almost three decades in the gun industry, was then recruited by Chenega Corporation and finished his working years as office manager for two physician practices. He was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2022 and bravely fought it because he didn't want to leave Barbara alone. The Lord graciously received him this past Sunday. Bob especially enjoyed aviation, motorcycles, watches and guns. Per Barbara: "He is the love of my life. He taught me what marriage and true love are. He was so gentle, respectful, giving and forgiving - a man of integrity like no one I've ever known. He was the best part of my world."
Bob will be buried in Pennsylvania, a pact he made with Barbara when they were married. Bob is survived by his wife of 28 years, Barbara Anderson Evans; mother, Betty Evans of Warminster, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Beverly Opilo (John) of York, Pa., and Brenda Anderson of Newville, Pa.; brother-in-law, Rodney Anderson (Sheila) of Millerstown, Pa.; eight nieces and nephews with spouses; eight great-nieces; and one great-nephew. Barbara asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to hospice.
