With sadness, but with fondness and gratitude for her life and love, we announce the passing of Rona Lee Bissonette on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Providence Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from 1-4 p.m., at the Kincaid Park Chalet Sports Building. In accordance with the Anchorage Mayor's guidelines, facemasks are requested but not required. The family desires that there be no flowers brought to this service. Rona was born on Feb. 12, 1945, in Grantsburg, Wis., the daughter of Bob and Wilma Huntley. She had three brothers: Nick, Jack and Kim. Following high school and business college, Rona came to Alaska in June 1964 by way of the U.S. Army and fell in love with the state. She worked in the Trust Department of Bank of the North for seven years and the CIRI Corporation for another five years. Many of her friends will remember her as the owner of "Arctic Stamps," which she ran from 1985 to 2005. In 1979, she married Stan Bissonette, a marriage lasting 41 years. Following her retirement in 2007, Rona and Stan became full-time RVers for two years, then Rona an avid seamstress, developed a new passion: quilting. She joined a group of women at "Seams Like Home" for Tuesday sewing sessions. They will greatly miss her humor and close friendship. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and stock holder. She had a passion for animals, especially cats. Rona is survived by her husband, Stan; sons, Rik (Jen), Mark (Marci), Christopher (Chelsea) Johnson; daughter, Michele (Meehan) Stromme (Terry); grandsons, Aaron and Gus Johnson, Michael Bissonette, Chris Raduege; granddaughter, Angela Crump (Josh); and great-granddaughter, Eloise "Ellie"; stepdaughter, Brenda Bissonette Rushton (Gary) of Pine Hill, N.J.; and stepson, Charlie Bissonette. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Wilma; and her brothers, Nick and Jack. Rona's ashes will be spread over the Chugach Mountains in a later private ceremony.
