Ronald Eugene Diltz

Ronald was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and soon moved to Oregon, growing up near, or on, the Rogue River in Grants Pass. He grew up playing sports, fishing, hunting, waterskiing and most any other activity that kept him enjoying the outdoors. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served our country in Vietnam. Ron was an avid fisherman spending many enjoyable hours as a child, teen, friend, husband, father and grandfather sharing his excitement and experience on the water. Ron's love for hunting was also a passion, coming in a very close second to fishing. Ron rarely missed an Alaska fall moose hunt - or bag limit - spending many a great and successful September with his hunting brothers, family and friends in his favorite area just west and north of Anchorage. He truly loved his moose hunts, his moose hunting partner(s) and the camaraderie that each year at moose camp brought. Another of Ron's favorite pastimes was golf, having enjoyed playing it since his days in college, his last several years of retirement found him helping out with Course Marshall duties at the Palmer Golf Course, here in Alaska, as well as enjoying the course himself with friends, visitors and colleagues. Ron also loved to eat; good food was always on his mind, including big breakfasts, moose cheeseburgers, homemade chili and spaghetti, any snacks from the sweet, salty and crunchy families along with most pastries and cookies of any origin. Ron always looked forward to the next great meal.

Ron is survived in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Diltz; his son, Chris Diltz and daughter-in-law Gwen Diltz; his son, Jerry Diltz and his girlfriend Courtney Garner; grandchildren, Sara Diltz, Hope Diltz, Joseph Diltz, Mitchell Diltz, Myles Diltz and Lilly Diltz; along with many, many friends from Alaska, Oregon and other Lower 48 states. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Delmar Diltz and stepmother Mackey Diltz; and his mother, Dorothy Sarmento (Hagan)(Diltz).

Ron will be cremated, his ashes spread and a marker placed at the family cabin on the Yentna River in Alaska. A marker will also be placed at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, in Jackson County, Ore. Ron's memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 1 p.m., at Janssen's Matsu Funeral Home, 6901 E Blue Lupine Dr., Palmer, AK 99645.
