Ronald Lee Parks

May 5, 1952 -

May 7, 2020

Ronald Lee Parks almost came into this world on the back of a motorcycle, the only transportation his parents owned at the time. He was born in Richmond, Ind., but made his home in Alaska following a long ride up the Alcan Highway in 1955. Ron's youth was spent between Anchorage and family homesteads on the Fishhook. He was an avid hunter and fisherman from early childhood. Berry picking was also a much loved activity. Highbush cranberries were especially valued for the delicious cranberry catsup made by his mother to complement the wild game.

Ron had a troubled life in many ways but was always good-hearted and made many friends along the way. He was musically talented and spent many happy hours jamming with friends. Cooking and baking were also among his natural talents. He worked in kitchens all over Alaska including Barrow, Cordova, Seward and the Alaska Railroad.

Ron always had faith in Jesus. At the end of his life, he was at peace knowing that his pain would cease and he would be reunited with his parents in Jesus' light.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Velma Parks; and one nephew.

Ron is survived by sisters, Carole Kramer of Florida and Linda Burns of Hawaii; and brother, Jerry (Debbie) of Eagle River; aunt, Janet Maynard of Florida; and five nephews in Anchorage and the Lower 48.

The family of Ron Parks give their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Providence Hospital. Special thanks go to Palliative Care team members Bette and Dr. Terland. Bette was crucial in keeping us informed initially and linking us with Ron via Zoom. Dr. Terland comforted us at the end. We also thank Ron's friends who were so helpful to him the past year, especially Denise, Doug and Mitch.

No celebration of life is planned at this time. Please direct any donations to the Food Pantry at Lutheran Social Services of Alaska, 1303 W 33rd Ave., Anchorage, AK 99503.
