Samuel Lee Hogg
Apr 11, 1937 -
Oct 13, 2020
Sam, as he liked to be called, passed to eternity on Oct. 13, 2020, at the age of 83. Sam was born in Omar, W.Va., on April 11, 1937.
His family then moved to Washington, D.C., when he was a teen. While in high school he joined the Air National Guard. After 3 years service in the National Guard he then transferred to the U.S. Air Force. He then spent 22 years in the Air Force traveling to different bases in Africa, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Spain and France. His last overseas assignment was in Vietnam, where he served for a year. He married Theresa Johnson on Jan. 15, 1966, in Cherry Brook, Nova Scotia, Canada.
In 1969, he was then transferred to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, where he eventually retired. He lived in Alaska for the last 50 years of his life, enjoying every minute, gardening, hunting and fishing. He never met a stranger and would talk and laugh with everyone. He was greatly loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Corene Hogg-Thurman; sister, Audrey Hogg; and daughter, Nathalie Benitez.
Left to mourn are his wife, Theresa Hogg; sister, Emma Sue Mahan; sons, Trevor and Andre Hogg; daughters, Monica Hogg and Andrea Hamby; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two great-nephews.
We would like to thank Legacy Funeral Homes, all of the staff of Campbell Creek House, Dr. Mueller and the VA Team for the loving care he received, and Providence and Elmendorf Hospitals.
